Hello dear orchid lover!
Once upon a time.... OrchiSphere started with a love of orchids—and a little bit of obsession.
My name is Anca. I have a background in business and economics, with an MBA and extensive experience in graphic and digital design. For years, I worked with shapes, patterns, composition, colour, and visual storytelling. Eventually, I found myself wanting to take those skills off the screen and turn them into something tangible.
Then came the orchids.
What started as a few plants quickly became a collection of a few hundreds orchids from Catasetums to generic Phal hybrids. And yes, I have killed quite a few along the way.
When I first started growing orchids, I quickly discovered that loving them wasn't quite the same as knowing how to care for them. I overwatered. I used the wrong pots. I learned the hard way that beautiful plants have very particular ideas about air, moisture, roots, and light.
But every failed orchid taught me something.
As my collection grew, so did another passion: pottery. I wanted pots that made me happy when I looked at them—something funky, playful, unexpected and beautiful, rather than another generic orchid pot.
I couldn't find what I was looking for.
So I decided to make it.
My graphic and digital design background naturally found its way into ceramics. I began translating ideas that once lived on a screen into three-dimensional forms, patterns, textures, cutouts and unconventional ceramic techniques. I experimented with shapes and surfaces, combining digital design thinking with the wonderfully unpredictable nature of handmade ceramics.
The result was something completely my own.
OrchiSphere was born from the idea that an orchid pot can be functional for the plant and joyful for the person growing it.
Every piece is designed with the needs of orchids in mind, while leaving plenty of room for personality, colour, playfulness and imagination. No two pieces are quite the same, and that's part of the point.
What started as a personal search for the right pot slowly became a passion project—and then a collection.
Today, OrchiSphere brings together the things I love most: orchids, design, ceramics, and the endless process of making something new.
I don't just make pots for orchids. I make the pots I wished I could find when I started collecting them.
And after more than 200 orchids, a few casualties, countless experiments, and a lot of learning, I'm still discovering where this passion will take me.
Welcome to OrchiSphere. Thank you for being here!
